MSUN Student Awarded George M. Dennison Civic Engagement Scholarship

HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – A MSU-Northern student was recently awarded the George M. Dennison Civic Engagement Scholarship. A press release says that Montana Campus Compact, an eighteen-campus higher education network, announced the inaugural class of winners.

Durand Bear Medicine is a Community Leadership major at Northern and a recipient of the scholarship. He provides guidance and leadership to youth and exposes local and off-reservation youth to cultural diversity and practices. Bear Medicine is also a leader of the Grammy Nominated drum group, Young Grey Horse.

The award recognizes students at their campuses who have volunteered significant time, energy and resources, while pursuing a degree or certificate, to projects that make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

The Campus Compact awarded ten scholarships out of a highly competitive group of 36 students who applied.
